Glenrowan Preschool is a recipient of our Community Benefit Sharing Program and is embarking on a five-year plan as part of its Cultivating Futures initiative to build a community garden.
The garden will serve as an exceptional hands-on learning environment for the kinder kids, their families, and the wider Glenrowan community.
It will also establish a shared and inclusive space within a natural environment that not only fosters community connections but also a deep sense of responsibility for environmental sustainability. Garden-based lessons will include plant phenology, cultivation of fruit and vegetables, energy literacy and the behaviours and habitats of the native animals that call the area home.
But the preschool isn’t stopping there – building on its existing partnership with Bangerang Aboriginal Corporation, teachers and Elders are collaboratively designing a lesson plan on First Nations Environmental knowledge.
Materials from the kinder space will also be repurposed to build more planter boxes and a local gardener and handyman has already built the fences.
