BESS survey findings

Values
  • The rural location and landscape character (75%) and the strong sense of community (75%) were highly valued
  • The environment and biodiversity were also important to 66.67% of respondents.

     
Support for the Project
  • 41.67% were strongly supportive, while 25% were neutral.
  • Factors influencing support included the clean energy transition (25%) and climate change mitigation (25%).
     
Perceived impacts
  • Concerns included increased demand on housing and short-term accommodation by workers (50% somewhat likely)
  • Potential community disagreement and conflict over the project were seen as somewhat likely by 50% of respondents
  • Amenity impacts during construction (e.g., air quality, noise) were also a concern.
Mitigation and management
  • Suggestions for mitigation included ongoing and stronger community consultation (33.33%) and government oversight (16.67%).
