Site being prepared for construction next year
Work started this month at the Glenrowan Solar Farm near Wangaratta in northern Victoria to prepare the 245-hectare site for construction next year.
A small crew is preparing the site, building access and internal roads, installing worker amenities and a laydown area for storage of materials as well as staff parking.
Work will ramp up from the new year, with landscaping screens established, facilities arriving to site and the installation of the solar farm tracker structures to begin.
The project team from CIMIC Group company, Pacific Partnerships, has been engaging with stakeholders and neighbours for the start of works and plans on being in Glenrowan for the long term.
As part of the team’s local commitment, it is establishing a Community Reference Group to help contribute to the success of the region and deliver community benefits.
The team will continue to meet with local champions as it develops community-driven benefit sharing initiatives.
Pacific Partnerships secured a 10-year power purchase agreement with the state of Victoria in October 2022 for the sale of solar power from the Glenrowan Solar Farm.
Glenrowan Solar Farm was selected as one of six new solar farm projects in the Victorian Renewable Energy Target 2 (VRET2) reverse auction process. It will generate an installed capacity of 130MWdc / 102MWac.
Power generated from the solar farm will help Victoria take one step closer to reaching the State’s updated target of 100 per cent renewable electricity across government operations by 2025.
Pacific Partnerships, through its energy business Pacific Partnerships Energy, will continue to develop the Glenrowan Solar Farm, with CIMIC Group company UGL currently undertaking the early works in preparation for construction.
The solar farm will supply renewable power to the Victorian and national electricity market and is expected to generate electricity equivalent to powering approximately 45,000 Australian homes.
Expressions of interest to join the Community Reference Group are sought from local individuals, residents, business owners and/or members of local interest groups. See here for more information.
